Welcome to Your Holiday Directory … the only holiday directory you will ever need.

More and more people are moving away from the idea of booking through travel agents to enjoy flexibility of choice.  Millions now choose to book directly with owners, cutting out the middle man (and his commissions!).

Your Holiday Directory is designed with the traveller in mind and makes it easy to find a comprehensive range of rental properties, bed & breakfasts, hotels, camp sites, caravan sites and mobile home sites – worldwide.

Break free from the constraints of the package holiday, book independently and see the world of no-fuss, quality accommodation open up to you.

Follow these simple steps to a very happy holiday!

The guidelines below will help those new to renting independent holiday accommodation and will also assist those who are new to Your Holiday Directory.

Choose your Holiday Accommodation:

Search our listings for your desired destination:

Tick Browse Destinations Alphabetically – if you know where you would like to holiday, click on the appropriate letter of the alphabet for a quick link to your desired destination

Tick Browse Destinations Regionally – if you want inspiration for your holiday destination, browse our listings. They are split regionally for added ease of use

Tick ‘Where do you want to go?’ you want to go straight to your desired destination, type the name in this field and enter

Tick ‘Which Advert?’ – if you have already chosen accommodation and wish to go straight to the advert, type the Advert Reference in this field

Tick Advanced Search – not sure what you want?  Select your criteria in our advanced search.

Select the tab showing the category of holiday accommodation that best suits your needs:

Choose from:

Tick Self Catering – this includes villas, apartments, cottages, gites, private caravans, boats, houses

Tick Catered – includes hotels, guesthouses, pubs/inns, bed & breakfasts

Tick Camp Sites – pitches can be selected with and without electrical hook-ups

Tick Caravan Sites – static caravans on a multi-caravan site

Tick Motor Home Sites – pitches can be selected with and without electrical hook ups

Tick Special Interest – for destinations that include facilities for Scuba Diving, Retreats, Golfing, Watersports, Stitch Breaks, Cookery Courses, Photography Courses, Naturists and more!

Search our listings for your desired accommodation:

Depending on your category choice, our listings can be searched by location, number of bedrooms or number of pitches.  It is worth remembering that with self catering accommodation, sofa beds and folding beds may be available, so a 2 bed roomed property may sleep up to 6.  The price of accommodation does vary from owner to owner so it is worth looking at larger properties as they are not always more expensive.

My Favourites - Shortlist the Accommodation:

There may be a number of properties or sites that appear suitable for your needs and you can shortlist these by adding them to My Favourites by clicking on the link shown in the advert.  Each advert has its own unique Advert Reference number allocated (e.g. CNY1).  You can make a note of this number to re-visit the advert at a later date by typing the reference into the ‘Which Advert?’ box on our Home Page.  You will be diverted straight to the accommodation advert.

Bookings and Enquiries:

Contact the Owner:

Full contact details are shown at the bottom of every comprehensive advert.  Telephone, Fax and mobile numbers are shown, where applicable. There is an email submission form which can be completed and is submitted directly to the advertiser. This form allows you to make booking enquiries and/or ask questions regarding the holiday accommodation.  If the advertiser has a website, this link will also be available.  Please remember that if you contact the advertiser through their own website, you should state that you heard about them through Your Holiday Directory.

Make a Booking:

Each advertiser will have their own way of processing a booking.

Tick Often you will be able to provisionally book accommodation for up to 7 days to allow you essential time to book travel arrangements, time off work and arrange travel insurance – it is worth asking

Tick On confirmation that you would like to proceed with the booking, you may be asked to sign a booking form accepting your agreement certain Terms and Conditions. You should ask for a copy of these Terms and Conditions as this will have important information regarding cancellations and deposits

Tick You should expect to pay a deposit of up to 50% of the total accommodation costs. Acceptable methods of payment are shown on the individual adverts.

Tick You should check whether gas, electricity, water or telephone is metered and payable separately as this can be an unexpected cost

Tick The balance of the accommodation is generally requested within 8 weeks of the holiday start date for self-catering accommodation, camp sites, caravan sites and mobile home sites.  Catered accommodation tends to vary much more and may be payable on departure.  In this case, often you will need to register your credit card details with them for security

Tick Details of directions and accessibility are normally provided within 2 weeks of the holiday (see below)

Tick In addition, a request for a security deposit is very standard on self-catering accommodation.  This is to guard the owner against out of pocket expenses for loss and damage of property incurred whilst you are in their holiday home.  Generally, this is refunded (minus any charges) within 2 weeks from the end of your holiday.

Book Flights and/or Transport:

There is an abundance of websites and agencies who offer great deals on independent flights and transport.  It is always worth checking around and comparing costs.  Often the advertiser will be able to offer advice on this and can also sometimes arrange this for you.

We have some airlines and websites noted under Flights and Car Hire in our Main Menu Index that you may find useful.

Car Hire and/or Airport Transfers:

The advert should tell you whether a car is essential for the accommodation.  If it is not noted, make sure you ask the question to ensure you get the holiday of your choice!  Alternatively, you may choose to hire a car to make the most of exploring your destination.  We have some car hire companies and websites notes under Flights and Car Hire in our Main Menu Index that you may find useful.

Some advertisers include the cost of car hire and airport transfer in their pricing.  It is always worth checking this when you contact them.

Map, Directions and Access:

Depending on your category of holiday accommodation, the owners or site owners will have their own arrangements for access to the property or site.  In all cases, you should not travel without contact details, including that of the advertiser, to be used in the event of unforeseen problems.

For self-catering accommodation, a map and directions are generally issued 2 weeks prior to the holiday.  At this time, you will also be sent keys or will receive confirmation on how to access the property.  There could be a security key pad (and you will be given a PIN number), the keys may be held at reception for you, or the management company or local representative could meet you to personally hand over keys.  If you do not receive such information within 14 days of your holiday, you should contact the advertiser.

With catered accommodation, the host is normally there to greet you and they will be happy for forward a map and directions at any stage prior to your holiday.

Camp sites, caravan sites and mobile homes sites often have a reception area where you report to on arrival.  If a map and directions are not provided within 14 days prior to your holiday, you should request them.

Problems:

Please do not wait until you return home to voice any problems or concerns that you have with the holiday accommodation.  The advertisers will want to maintain standards at their property or site and would like to be given the opportunity of providing you with the best possible holiday.  Details of who to contact in the event of a problem should either be in the property itself, at reception or with the local representative.  Failing that, contact the advertiser directly and request assistance.

We hope that you have found the above information helpful. Our aim is to help find a perfect match for holidaymaker's accommodation requirements throughout the world – whatever the needs, or budget!
