The apartment is privately owned by a couple who visited Los Gigantes in February 2002 and simply fell in love with the tranquillity of the area.

Los Gigantes

There are a host of local restaurants and shops in the village and the local area.

El Marques Palace is tucked into the hillside above the village where Los Gigantes meets Puerto Santiago on the South Western coast of Tenerife. This is one of the most tranquil and exclusive areas of the island of Tenerife which enjoys lovely weather all-year round, with relatively little difference between summer (average 27 degrees C) and winter (average 19 degrees C) months. The most sunshine, least clouds and warmest climate can be found on the south and west sides of the island, where Los Gigantes and El Marques Palace can be found. There are stunning views across the bay to the island of La Gomera which rises majestically from the ocean. Take time out at sunset to just stand and stare at the spectacular free show as the sun plops into the sea coating the island and water in liquid gold. The magnificent Los Gigantes cliffs soar above the Northern side of the village helping create a sheltered year-round climate. The village has been built around the traditional style plaza with the beautiful church at its heart. The church boasts an interesting selection of bronze sculptures with a dramatic painting over the altar. This plaza is the hub of the village. Take time out and enjoy a glass of local wine or a coffee and just watch the world go by. If you're lucky the local 'parakeetas' will put on an aerial display for you in one of the large leafy trees.
There is a small beach of black sand but because of the rocky coastline there are also two purpose built swimming pools which overlook the ocean. One juts out into the sea and you could imagine you are on a cruise liner as you lounge under your sun umbrella with the fine salt spray lightly dusting your face. There is always a breeze to keep you comfortable on even the hottest days.
El Marques Palace is part of a modern building finished in the year 2000 of only 64 apartments set in two low-rise blocks. The apartment has two bedrooms (one with king size bed, one with two single beds) and two bathrooms so both bedrooms are ensuite. From the master bedroom you can step through the georgian style glass door to balcony for a breath of fresh morning sea air. The kitchen is fully fitted plus washing machine and microwave. The owners were very impressed to find that the kitchen equipment even included a fruit juicer! The apartment does have air conditioning but, as patio doors fill one wall of the lounge/dining room flooding the room with light and air, the owners haven't had cause to use it. The elegant blonde wood dining table and chairs make for sophisticated dining inside or there is a table and chairs set on the wide balcony for more al fresco meals.

Travel

You can hire cars by the day, the week or longer. If you don’t want to hire a car (everywhere within the Los Gigantes area is a walk from El Marques Palace) then taxis are very reasonable. A taxi from the airport – Reina Sofia – is 48 to 50 Euros one way – don’t forget to check the cost with driver before you get in! El Marques is set in an elevated position with a walk down the sweeping hill into the village of Los Gigantes (for those less able on their pins it costs approximately two Euros each way by one of the excellent local taxis). External facilities	:	We have the use of the large kidney shaped pool you can see from the balcony (and the kiddies pool obviously). This is lovely and gets the sun from early morning till very late afternoon (in winter) and early evening (in summer). There is a poolside snack bar which sells drinks and very reasonable food during the day, including breakfast. Guests of El Marques Palace also have use of the Sporting Club pool. This is a lovely pool, very peaceful, and is less busy usually. It is very sheltered and with great views of La Gomera and the bay. There are changing rooms and W.C. there. If you walk up the steps from this pool you will come to the tennis courts and bowling green. In the building next door to this pool there is a squash court, sauna and gym. If you want to book tennis, squash, etc., just ask at Reception.

Management
Cleaning	:	The maids here are very good we think, and very friendly, and keep the whole complex very clean. They will pop in every day to empty the kitchen bin but if you have loads of rubbish there are bins just up the hill from the front gate, by the pool. The maids will leave you in peace apart from that - but we do pay extra for them to come in half way (approximately) through your stay to clean, as well as at the end of your holiday. They will give you fresh sheets and towels at this point too. However, if there are any problems regarding this please mention it to Reception.

Further Details

There are some superb restaurants in Los Gigantes. The Royal Sun boasts a roof-top restaurant with some of the finest cuisine around. For simpler fare El Meson offers typically Spanish cooking at it's finest and the owner and his staff cannot be beaten for friendliness. A very romantic setting. One of the best fish and chip suppers on the island can be found next door and both of these restaurants offer wonderful terrace views over the sunsets and La Gomera. From simple toasted sandwiches to the exquisite patisserie and chocolate milkshakes to chateaubriand the village has something to suit all taste buds. There is a supermarket within walking distance which sells local delicacies whilst at the same time catering for the more English tastes and the little bakery across the road sells hot bread and long rolls (panos) from early in the morning.
There's something for everyone during the day, guests can enjoy all the services offered by the Sporting Club complex situated only 75 metres away with tennis, squash, gymnasium, sauna, heated pool, restaurant and bar which offers live entertainment. Slightly further afield there is, golf on glorious courses, hiking in the hills or down the twisting cliff path to Masca Bay (Heidi's Hikes), boat trips from little Los Gigantes harbour to visit the whales and dolphins which are to be found playing a little further out to sea. For the adventurous there are excursions to majestic Mount Teide in the centre of the island or trips to the mysterious island of La Gomera (listen out for the famous whistling language!)
