'Low Penhowe’ is old Yorkshire dialect for ‘the sheep pen on a hill’. Today, the house has been described as “a very elegant home” by the English Tourist Council, which has awarded owners Philippa and Christopher Turner the Council’s 5 Stars and the Gold award for their outstanding Yorkshire B&B. For the last three years we have been awarded “Yorkshire Finalist for Guest Accommodation of the Year”.

We pride ourselves on the excellence of our Aga cooked breakfasts, offering a variety of local and homemade produce. Enjoy a selection of our own free-range eggs, and from our butcher, locally cured bacon, black pudding and sausages. Even the tomatoes and mushrooms are all sourced locally. As an alternative our guests are able to enjoy locally smoked kippers, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and home roasted York ham with poached eggs. To finish off your breakfast we offer homemade marmalade and jams, home baked bread and honey from village farms. We are proud to have been awarded our “Deliciously Yorkshire Breakfast” seal of approval for our commitment to the promotion of delicious, healthy breakfasts using regional produce!

At Low Penhowe we normally provide Bed and Breakfast accommodation to a maximum of 4 guests at anyone time. However on occasions we will provide accommodation to a maximum of 6 guests and no more!

A traditional Yorkshire stone-built farmhouse, with stunning views overlooking the Howardian Hills, Yorkshire Wolds and across to the North Yorkshire Moors, the house makes an idyllic spot for a quiet few nights away.

Low Penhowe is also the perfect location for anyone wishing to enter into the hustle and bustle of York, while enjoying the peace and tranquillity of rural England.

North Yorkshire has been crowned Garden of England. The county was praised for "breathtaking countryside" like the Yorkshire Dales and the quality of its stately homes, such as Castle Howard near York.
